My sketchbook and journals lately. Exploring Peruvian lore, and the lives of two Inca nobles had history chosen to write about their childhoods too ✍️🌞

(the outfits drawn here are based on modern folk tradition! More historically-canonical drawings will feature luxury tunics and yacollas, because let’s be real, there’s no alternate universe where Rumi would ever agree to wear post-colonial clothing)

Rumiñawi 🇪🇨🇵🇪
Rolling out more folkdance-inspired sketches. This is the only role (aside from the Inca/emperor) in the dance that’s named after a historical figure.
Rumiñawi was an Inca war general, son of an emperor, and Andean indigenous hero from a region that is now present-day Ecuador. His name in Quechua means “stone eyes”/“stone face”, and he definitely gave Pizarro and his men a lot of problems 👀
I wanted to draw a young Rumiñawi, early into his military career, with the almost templar-like look of the folk costume. Last two slides are pictures of the costume I was fortunate enough to see in Chiquian.

Danza de las Pallas.
Playing with shape, and color ✍️ I like to paint in limited palettes, but wanted to try pulling from traditional textiles and some of the wider colors associated with Peru (the Wiphala is literally a rainbow!) #ancash #peru #digitalart #illustration

I can probably draw this paladin forever 🤭 8 super rough sketches later and this tiefling-minotaur girlie is moving. Wonder what, or who, she’s admiring 👀 #dungeonsanddragonsart #characterart #animation #sketch

Baile de las Pallas 🇵🇪
Wanted to draw this character/role from a traditional folkloric dance in Peru. The dance is part of the Santa Rosa festival, depicting the story of the Inca empire and the Spanish.
“Palla” is Quechua for “Inca princess” and “noble woman”, and the costume for this role varies from region to region. The version I grew up with from Chiquián/Ancash will always be my favorite! Draping pink lace sleeves and collars, layered pearls, gold-embroidered ponchos, satin vests, llauto, and long handkerchiefs, all come together to display nobility and beautiful shapes for a full-orchestra dance 🎷 #ancash #chiquian #peru #illustration

Absolutely had to draw one of these up for our wonderful GM, Brent, to complete the series. Our group’s been SPOILED by the dedication, world-building (he made an in-game stock market?? what??) and overall enthusiasm he brings to every session. Blessed! #dungeonsanddragons
Following slides are some moments from our campaign ☺️

Our very first session had a guest appearance from newly hatched pet chickens 💞

Multi-level ship map, and a very valid panic 🏴‍☠️

Fireball (courtesy of Elara)

Undead unicorn moment

You guessed it, more fireball 🤭

Spectrum Mobile, huddled

If I remember correctly, this tower also came apart floor by floor

Did you know these little guys have enormously long legs? 🦖

Another character that has been so fun to draw! Melissandre is our wizard drow, and sixth party member bound by an infernal contract 📜 She was raised on the outskirts of drow civilization by her father, and was encouraged to find beauty in the world above the Underdark. Mel is a powerful wizard, but her confidence takes a dive whenever it’s time to socialize and make friends. She’s shy, awkward, and a little secretive, but that hasn’t stopped the party from fully accepting her and her snack habits 🪲

So… each page I draw becomes my new favorite 💞 our campaign has been going on for almost a year and a half, and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to finally draw our girls!

Stand clear or be cleared, Sutha is our orc-tiefling barbarian, and fifth party member bound by an infernal contract 📜 With no alliances or affiliations, we’re all pretty grateful she’s chosen to stay with the party as long as she has. Likely our most chaotic member of the group, Sutha’s plans are always her own, and it keeps everyone on their toes… especially during some of our more diplomatic scenarios 🗡️🍻
